Participants may choose from four categories:
• Category 1: Single item (solo/1 participant)
• Category 2: Single item (group/2–5 participants)
• Category 3: Theme programme (solo/1 participant)
• Category 4: Theme programme (group/2–5 participants)

Participants may enter in a maximum of TWO categories, of which one may be a solo and one a group category. Participants may not enter for two solos (Categories 1 and 3) or two group categories (Categories 2 and 4).

Single item (Categories 1 and 2)
• This category requires a single item. Participants choose one of the following:
– Poem (formal or dramatised)
– Prose (formal or dramatised)
– Monologue or duologue
– Mime
– Advertisement
– Storytelling
• Language: Afrikaans/English or bilingual.

Theme programme (Categories 3 and 4)
• This category requires a creative theme programme. Participants choose from the following (refer to the syllabus below for age-specific requirements):
– Poem (formal or dramatised)
– Prose (formal or dramatised)
– Monologue or duologue
– Mime
– Advertisement
– Storytelling
• Participants choose pieces around a central theme.
• Joining text/music/movement may be used to let the programme flow.
• A balanced programme (dramatisation, genres, comedy, drama etc.) is recommended with emphasis on variety.
• Language: Afrikaans, English or bilingual.

General information
• There is no unprepared category.
• In each age category a winner, runner-up, third place and most promising actor will be announced. Each participant receives a certificate and adjudicator’s report.
• The Drama Section takes place in the Blou Kaross at the MDDA centre. There is a small stage (2,5 m deep and 7 m wide). Drama blocks are available.
• Costume: Black theatre attire with the option of costume suggestions and props.
• There are limited dressing room facilities available. Please arrive in costume.
• Participants should be ready 15 minutes before their items.
• A bluetooth speaker will be available, should programme requires it. MP3 format on memory stick.
• Please take note of time limits.
– The maximum time is indicated. It includes setup and leaving the stage.
– A bell will ring if the time is exceeded.
• More than one section may take place in the centre at the same time; theatre etiquette is therefore very important.
• Failure to obey the rules above, may lead to disqualification.
