Participants may choose from five categories:
• Category 1: Single item (solo/1 participant)
• Category 2: Single item (group/2+ participants)
• Category 3: Dance programme (solo/1 participant)
• Category 4: Dance programme (group/2+ participants)
• Category 5: Own choreography (solo or group)

Participants may enter in a maximum of TWO categories, of which one should be a solo and one a group category.
Participants may not enter for two solos (Categories 1 and 3) or two group categories (Categories 2 and 4).

Single item (Categories 1 and 2)
• In these categories participants present one dance.
• Participants choose from the following styles (refer to syllabus for age-specific requirements):
Acrobatics, Ballet, Ballroom, Breakdance, Contemporary, Demi-Character, Disco, Ethnic, Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Latin, Modern, Modern Jazz, NRG, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Show Dance, Slow Dance, Tap Dance.

Dance programme (Categories 3 and 4)
• In these categories participants present a dance programme in a variety of styles or a variety of dances in one style.
• Participants choose from the following styles (refer to syllabus for age-specific requirements):
Acrobatics, Ballet, Ballroom, Breakdance, Contemporary, Demi-Character, Disco, Ethnic, Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Latin, Modern, Modern Jazz, NRG, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Show Dance, Slow Dance, Tap Dance.

Own choreography (Category 5)
• In this category participants choreograph their own dance item for 1 – 4 dancers.
• The dance should be chreographed in advance, i.e. no improvisation.
• Participants choose from the following styles (refer to syllabus for age-specific requirements):
Acrobatics, Ballet, Ballroom, Breakdance, Contemporary, Demi-Character, Disco, Ethnic, Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Latin, Modern, Modern Jazz, NRG, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Show Dance, Slow Dance, Tap Dance.

General information
• Participants receive a certificate and adjudicator’s report after the session.
• In every age category, a winner, runner-up, 3rd place and most promising dancer/s will be announced after the session.
• The section is hosted in the MDDA’s 5-6-7-8 Dance Studio. There is no stage in this venue. The dance area is 8 m wide and 6 m deep.
• Even though the size of groups isn’t limited, participants should keep the available dance area in mind.
• Participants should be ready 15 minutes before their item.
• Please take note of time limits.
o The maximum time is indicated. It includes setup and leaving the stage.
o A bell will ring if the time is exceeded.
• Costumes should be age-appropriate and should complement the item/programme.
• Makeup is allowed. Hairstyles should complement the item/programme.
• Props and minimal costume changes with the maximum time limit will be allowed. Participants should do their own set-up, and may not receive any help.
• Limited dressing room facilities are available. Please arrive in costume.
• Music only allowed in MP3 format on memory stick.
– Hand in at the sound table before the session.
– Use the participant/group’s name as title for the track.
– Cut music to the length of the item.
• More than one section may take place in the centre at the same time; theatre etiquette is therefore very important.
• Failure to obey the rules above, may lead to disqualification.
