Participants may choose from five categories:
• Category 1: Single item (solo/1 participant)
• Category 2: Single item (group/2–4 participants)
• Category 3: Song programme (solo/1 participant)
• Category 4: Song programme (group/2–4 participants)
• Category 5: Own composition (solo or group)

Participants may enter in a maximum of TWO categories, of which one should be a solo and one a group category. Participants may not enter for two solos (Categories 1 and 3) or two group categories (Categories 2 and 4).

Single item (Categories 1 and 2)
• In these categories, participants sing one song.
• Arrangements of existing songs are allowed in these categories.
• Participants choose from the following genres (refer to syllabus below for age-specific requirements):
Classical / Rock / Pop / Gospel / Country / Traditional / Ethnic

Song programme (Categories 3 and 4)
• In these categories participants sing a song programme in a variety of genres that showcase the vocal abilities of the singer/s.
• Arrangements of existing songs are allowed in these categories.
• The programme may be sung in one or more languages.
• Participants choose from the following genres (refer to syllabus below for age-specific requirements):
Classical / Rock / Pop / Gospel / Country / Traditional / Ethnic

Own composition (Category 5)
• In this category, participants sing their own composition for 1 – 4 singers.
• The composition must be the original work of the participant/s. No arrangements of existing songs are allowed in this category.
• The song should be composed in advance, i.e. no improvisation.
• Participants choose from the following styles (refer to syllabus below for age-specific requirements):
Classical / Rock / Pop / Gospel / Country / Traditional / Ethnic

General information
• Each participant receives a certificate and adjudicator’s report after the session.
• In each age category, a winner, runner-up, 3rd place and most promising singer will be announced after the session.
• Acoustic accompaniment/backing track/a capella or a combination thereof may be used.
• There will be no benefit to candidates who do their own accompaniment.
• An electronic piano is available.
• A sound technician and microphones will be available in the venue.
• Backing track: ONLY USB STICKS IN MP3 FORMAT must be handed in at start of session.
• No music will be downloaded from cell phones.
• Accompaniment should be cut and presented as 1 track, with candidate’s name as the title.
• Dress Code: Age and performance appropriate attire – e.g. black/ black& white/denim.
• Props are allowed. No costume changes will be allowed.
• Limited dressing room facilities are available. Please arrive in costume.
• Failure to adhere to the rules above, may lead to disqualification.
